Oxford Ministry Course (non-residential training)

Ripon College Cuddesdon is home to the Oxford Ministry Course (OMC) which is a non-residential programme of ordination training, primarily for the Church of England (accredited for training also by the Methodist and United Reformed Churches). The majority of students are ordinands from the Oxford Diocese, but ministerial students from other areas and independent students are also welcome to join in part or for the entire programme. The course has currently around sixty students.

The three year course offers a rich preparation for ministry based on a programme of academic study which is carefully integrated with continuing local experience and responsibility. The course meets for a meal, worship, lectures and tutorials on Tuesday evenings at Ripon College Cuddesdon in ten-week terms of study. In addition there are six residential weekends and an eight day summer or Easter residence each year, offering important opportunities to study in depth and to build lasting relationships with fellow students.

Most students study for the Foundation Degree in Ministry of Oxford Brookes University. A few, usually with some previous theological study, are entered for a BA or MA. A thorough grounding in all academic and practical aspects of ministerial training is provided. Students with prior theological learning or seeking a mixed mode of training (incorporating both residential and non-residential elements) can be accommodated on individualised study programmes.

Non-residential students enjoy lectures from a wide range of teaching staff from within and beyond the College. The experience of training is also supported by a network of local tutors and placement supervisors. Students have access to all the resources of the College, including the Chapel and the Library.

The Oxford Ministry Course offers a profound experience of community through the rhythm of shared learning and worship interwoven amidst the challenges of continued relationships and responsibilities in the wider networks of everyday life. It is a challenging and stimulating way to integrate ministerial development with the whole of life.
