Summer School in Biblical Studies, 6 - 13 July 2013
Life, the Universe and Everything: Creation and Renewal in the Bible
You are warmly invited to the next Summer School in Biblical Studies at Ripon College Cuddesdon, which is set in beautiful countryside surroundings near the world-famous city and university of Oxford.
Beliefs and stories about the origins and destiny of the world and humanity were extremely important to the self-understanding and social conventions of people of the ancient world – including Israel and the early Christian movement. The notion of the creation and renewal of all things as part of God’s ultimate redemption is one important way in which some of the Jewish and Christian writers of the biblical texts gave voice to a hope that shaped their lives. In this Summer School, we will explore the sacred page, and consider the questions it raises, concerning creation and renewal. To enable this, we will listen to recognised experts in the various areas of theology, among them biblical studies, doctrine, church history, pastoral studies, liturgy and mission; and also learn through interaction with each other in guided group discussions. Come and meet people from across the world and join us for an enriching and inspirational experience!
