Retreats at Cuddesdon

Come for an individual retreat to take time for yourself to think, to read, to pray, to take stock and to deepen your relationship with God. In term-time you can join eat and worship with our students. In the vacations, you may be staying alongside other retreatants or conference guests, or self-cater and have the place largely to yourself.

We also run guided retreats for with a programme of input and the company of others to enjoy. These are usually held in term-time, so that there is the opportunity to share in the life of the students.

Praying with the Poets

In this contemplative and creative three-day retreat, poet and priest Esther Lay will offer a programme of prayer, reading, discussion, and creative writing. Participants will have the chance to encounter both sacred and secular poetry spanning five centuries, from the magisterial and emotionally raw work of John Donne to the ecological protest poetry of Karen Solie, winner of the 2025 TS Eliot Prize. The retreat will be shaped around the daily offices and two writing workshops each day, with space for silence and independent writing in between. Details and booking here.

In this 5-day unique experiential retreat, we will explore the essential skills and wisdom of the art of meditation as set out in Martin Laird's book ‘Into the Silent Land’, including: cultivating gentle concentration (attentiveness) and the opening of awareness, the subtle challenges of stilling the mind and the interior skills to meet them, how our deepening silence reveals “the overflowing vastness” of our deepest identity in God, becoming windows of light and places of peace for the world. The Poetry of Pilgrimage
