A city full of idols? Being Church in a Consumer Society
Tuesday 6th - Thursday 8th July 2021
In the earliest days of the Church, recorded in the Acts of the Apostles, we see a Christian community that chooses to live a ‘counter-cultural’ lifestyle, letting go of personal wealth
in favour of a heavenly inheritance. Our society today puts great emphasis not only on wealth but on choice and personal fulfilment as great goods. But is that the Christian way?
How do we, as a Church, navigate this consumer society?
How can we reveal its shortcomings and model the life of God’s Kingdom?
Has consumerism infiltrated the Church itself?
This summer school will explore these questions and look at what it means to be Church in a consumer society.
