Exploring the power of Compassion in leadership, organisations and society
Grounded in current research, this day will explore evidence-based ways in which Compassion makes a measurable difference personally, organisationally and societally. It can be demonstrated that Compassion:
- strengthens inclusion, belonging, wellbeing and safety
- improves teamwork and retention
- protects against empathy overload and burnout
What the Day Will Give You
- Insights from social neuroscience and organisational psychology into why and how Compassion can improve personal, institutional and social wellbeing in your settings
- Realistic Compassion practices that you can apply to yourselves and your teams, including:
- Evidence-based self-compassion exercises
- Effective and humane boundary-setting for self and others
- Training in applying the 4-steps of compassion - noticing, feeling, sense-making, and responding - within your settings
- Open exploration of common concerns - including perceptions that Compassion is ‘soft’, unprofessional, time‑consuming, or emotionally draining - alongside research‑informed evidence demonstrating how compassionate leadership saves time and money, strengthens relationships, and significantly enhances safety.
Throughout the day, we will consider ways in which Compassion will be helpful to you in your contexts drawing on examples from business, education and healthcare settings. Please bring a scenario (from work, ministry, wider life or fiction) where Compassion was present and made a difference, or where it was absent and would have been helpful. A wide range of examples will deepen our shared learning.
