The college was founded in 1854, with many of our main buildings dating back to that time period. In the 2013 we were generously built Harriet Monsell House with the aid of the Community of St John The Baptist. We have both the beauty of our grade II listed buildings as well as the interesting features that come along with them. We are fully committed to making our site as accessible as possible, with our main teaching rooms, dining hall and common room all being fully accessible.
We also have projects in place to improve accessibility in areas of the college that currently do not have step free access.
Our wide concrete paths leading all around the college, ramp accessible buildings and power assisted doors allow wheelchair users to safely navigate around campus independently.
The Edward King Chapel is a fully accessible building, a continuous flowing ramp leads smoothly around the outside edge of the chapel from the entrance to the centre of the chapel. A hearing loop system is also available during worship.
We have bedrooms fitted with pillow fire alarms for those who are hard of hearing as well as accessible, step free bedrooms complete with ensuite wet rooms.
Challenges
Due to the age and nature of a few of our buildings, unfortunately, some areas of the college are only able to be accessed via an old staircase. The old chapel is on the first floor up a shallow stone staircase, with an additional step up to the alter.
Our Library is also on the first floor, up the same stone staircase. We have listed our Library catalogue online, and we are more than happy to deliver books to your room during your time here.
